Book Buffet - Book and Signature

HUMS - April 29th Today was the due date for students to have chosen their book for the Book Buffet as well as have their signature page signed by their parent/guardian. Students were given a week at school to find a book and also had the weekend to find a book and get their signature page signed. Students who did not have their signature page signed today, please take it home tonight and get it signed. If you show Mrs. Croswell the signed signature page before the bell goes tomorrow (prior to 8:25am), she will not mark it as late.

Reminders:  We have our Celebration of Learning coming on May 16th from 5-7pm. Can't wait to see everyone there! HUMS -Our Book Buffet project starts Monday, April 29th. Students have been made aware that they need to choose a book and have their purple book buffet signature page signed by their parents/guardians for the 29th. -This week we learned about industrialization in Canada during WWI as well as the Famous Five and the change in women's rights throughout the country in the early 1900s. Next week we will be looking at the Great Depression and the economic boom during WWII. -We will be buckling down on our Canadian tall tale poems and "book covers" next week! MATH -We continued to work our understandings of fractions, equivalent fractions, decimals, and percentages. -We will be continuing with this work and will be starting with area, perimeter and volume. -We will starting on a larger project on this in the coming weeks! Homework Reminders

5 -1 and 5-2 Collective Understanding PowerPoints -Students are reminded that they must have their second artifact will need to be uploaded to our collective understandings  before school starts on Friday, April 26th.   We will be going over the collective understandings as groups in class and contributions need to be in on time.  -Students are asked to complete at least  one math artifact and one science artifact before Friday. -Students received a mark in their math for the contribution last week and will receive a mark in their science for the April 26th contribution. HUMS -Students are reminded that their CPR essay is overdue and needs to be handed in as soon as possible. This is a large writing assignment and is important in the assessment of student writing. There will not be any more time given in class to work on this as the due date has passed.

Reminders: There is no school tomorrow, April 19th, or on Monday, Apr 22nd. We look forward to seeing everyone on Apr 23rd, 2019! HUMS -CPR Essays were due today. Students may take the long weekend and hand it in first thing before the bell on Tuesday morning if need be. Essays must be handed in prior to school starting to not be counted as late. - There will be a quiz on Confederation, NWMP, CPR, and Western Immigration on  Thursday, April 25th .  Students are allowed to bring in all of their Questions to Know sheets (where they have taken notes on these topics) to the quiz as well as their web/list on how the CPR changed Canada.  If students have additional notes they would like to bring in that they took in class, they need to check them with Mrs. Croswell prior to the quiz date. CPR Essay

Students are encouraged to take their CPR Essays home tonight to continue working on them. Depending on how well students work tomorrow, they may or may not have the long weekend to finish their essay. Some students have already handed in all four drafts and have completed this assignment. Those students are currently working on their Canadian Tall Tale Stories and Book Covers for the remainder of Humanities this week. *Another reminder that Propaganda Poster marks and Confederation/NWMP Sum-up Page marks were posted last week on PowerSchool*

HUMS -Propaganda Posters were due today and EVERYONE in both classes handed them in! Way to go!! -We have had many periods this week to be working on our CPR Mini-Essay and we will have work periods every day next week as well. This is currently scheduled to be due Thursday, April 18th. Students are allowed to work on this over the weekend if they would like. -Please check out the HUMS page on this blog for access to instructions, the class-created rubric, and the drafting/editing/revising process. HUMS Due Dates

HUMS -Propaganda Posters for Western immigration are due this coming Friday, April 12th. Students have work periods all week to be working on this. -We are starting to write an essay on the CPR. This is very structured and guided. See the HUMS page for details. This is tentatively due Thursday, April 18th.

Collective Understandings Homework

COLLECTIVE UNDERSTANDINGS POWERPOINTS for 5-1 and 5-2 Introduction: Over the coming weeks, we will create a shared PowerPoint that captures our understandings of Math and Science concepts. This PowerPoint can include pictures, artifacts or short written explanations of Math and Science concepts that we see within our world. This will act as a living account of our learning and the connections we make between classroom concepts and our lives outside of school. I encourage each of you to creatively seek out ways to show, express and represent the concepts we learn about in class within your community and home to bring personal meaning to our Collective Understandings PowerPoint! Each item will need our name and date attached to it so that we can share its meaning and relevance to the topics we are learning in class. Week at a Glance

Our first week back after Spring Break has sure been a busy one! CTF -Both 5-1 and 5-2 have begun brainstorming ideas for their Coulee Fest projects! They have been encouraged to revisit the drawing board, change their ideas, edit, narrow or expand focus, and more. Some students have moved on to their purple "Initial Planning" page and may be bringing it home for you to review. Please take the time to carefully look at their planning sheet to help assess their project. It needs to be signed and returned to school. By signing the page, you agree to support your student with this project in the upcoming weeks. Students (and teachers) are so excited!! HUMS -We are finishing True Blue Scouts this week (and a bit on Monday)! We will be moving on to our graphic novel creation assignment very soon.  Ask your student what they thought about the story, if they liked/disliked the ending, and why!  We will be starting our new read aloud soon! - Confederation and NWMP Sum-up Pages ...
