COLLECTIVE UNDERSTANDINGS POWERPOINTS for 5-1 and 5-2
Introduction: Over the coming weeks, we will create a shared PowerPoint that captures our understandings of Math and Science concepts. This PowerPoint can include pictures, artifacts or short written explanations of Math and Science concepts that we see within our world. This will act as a living account of our learning and the connections we make between classroom concepts and our lives outside of school. I encourage each of you to creatively seek out ways to show, express and represent the concepts we learn about in class within your community and home to bring personal meaning to our Collective Understandings PowerPoint!
- Each item will need our name and date attached to it so that we can share its meaning and relevance to the topics we are learning in class.
- Each slide has a “Topic” listed at the top, so we can sort our contributions into specific areas of understanding.
- Examples have been added to some of the “Topic” slides to help us get started
- Each contribution must have a name, date, and short description along with a small picture.
- Students are reminded that this is a joint project and they are not to touch the contributions of other students.
- If you can't get the picture to work you can email Mrs. Simmons if all else fails.
- Seek them out (look at things critically- How does this half eaten pizza represent a fraction?)
- Create them (you can create a representation of your understanding by building, drawing or organizing materials to show concepts coming to life)
- Observe them (take in your surroundings, what do you see, where is math and science existing naturally in your environment?)
Each week the students will be asked to add to our collective understandings. They must add at least 1 contribution to a math or science topic. This is the minimum contribution. Students are encouraged to add more! The first contribution must be in by April 12th, 2019.
