REMINDERS -Student led conferences are being help on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning next week. Students will be dismissed at 12:40pm on Thursday and there is no school on Friday. We are super excited to see everyone and hope that you are able to book in on the School Conferences under the 'Simmons/Croswell' button. We can't wait to share some of the good work we do! HUMS -NWMP Posters were due today. Students may take the weekend to finish them up and hand them in on Monday. -We will be moving on to Western Immigration soon! We will look at the influx of immigrants into the West, who they were, and why they were coming (push and pull factors). HUMS URR SECRET LETTER DUE ON MONDAY! -New assignments and grades have been posted on PowerSchool. This includes grades for the OREO Opinion Paragraph, the recent Fur Trade, UEL, and URR quiz grades, and if the Underground Railroad Secret Letter has been handed in or not. Please take a moment to look at these. -This week we started Confederation - the process of Canada becoming a country! Each class got a question to consider: "What if TMC split into two schools - one grades 5-6 and one grades 7-9?" and "What if Eric Harvie and Tuscany joined TMC and we became a K-9 school?". Students had to decide if they were for or against this and then provide reasons why. They were encouraged to look at the question from both perspectives - for and against - and then share their reasons with the class. This helped us understand the process of Confederation a little bit better in a way that we could relate. We will finish Confederation up early next week and then move on to ...

Reminder: HUMS Quiz Tomorrow!

Reminder: There will be a quiz in Humanities tomorrow (Thursday, March 7th) that covers the Fur Trade, the United Empire Loyalists, and the Underground Railroad. Students are allowed to bring their "Questions to Know" sheets into the quiz. If they have additional papers (such as notes on looseleaf) they will be checked and then allowed or disallowed based on the content. Students have been encouraged to fill in any missing questions on their sheets if they missed a day in class, forgot to answer a question, etc.

SCIENCE:  Students have spent lots of time in the past week looking at some of the different experiments. We completed our cabbage water indicator experiment last week (so stinky!) As well, we also looked at the surface tension of water and how many drops of water could fit on a penny. In the coming week, students have been challenged to find a small science experiment that they could put together for a mini science fair on Friday. We have asked for most of the materials to be brought from home, but shoot Mrs. Simmons a quick email if you have questions about the project or to see if we have some of the materials on hand. Students will be working on this throughout the week and creating their write up to have on display. Ideally, students will demonstrate their experiment to their peers on Friday, but if they can't, they could do the experiment at home and share pictures of their work. Please check with Mrs. Simmons if you have any questions. We thought this would be a fun way to...
