SCIENCE: Students have spent lots of time in the past week looking at some of the different experiments. We completed our cabbage water indicator experiment last week (so stinky!) As well, we also looked at the surface tension of water and how many drops of water could fit on a penny.
In the coming week, students have been challenged to find a small science experiment that they could put together for a mini science fair on Friday. We have asked for most of the materials to be brought from home, but shoot Mrs. Simmons a quick email if you have questions about the project or to see if we have some of the materials on hand. Students will be working on this throughout the week and creating their write up to have on display. Ideally, students will demonstrate their experiment to their peers on Friday, but if they can't, they could do the experiment at home and share pictures of their work. Please check with Mrs. Simmons if you have any questions. We thought this would be a fun way to culminate our chemistry unit.
MATH: Students continued to work on our larger 'If Canada Were a Village of 100 People' project. Students have been challenged throughout the week to complete population comparisons, living conditions across Canada, and Ages of People in Canada. All of these are geared towards helping us develop stronger understanding of how to represent Canada through the use of the 2016 Census Data. We have more to come and will be ready to share it all at student led conferences o March 21st-22nd!
HUMS: This week we are finishing up the Underground Railroad by writing secret codes letters! Then we are moving into Confederation!! Learning all about how and why Canada united to become one country! We are also on the last three parts of True Blue Scouts and then we will move on to our graphic novel creations.
