URR SECRET LETTER DUE ON MONDAY!
-New assignments and grades have been posted on PowerSchool. This includes grades for the OREO Opinion Paragraph, the recent Fur Trade, UEL, and URR quiz grades, and if the Underground Railroad Secret Letter has been handed in or not. Please take a moment to look at these.
-This week we started Confederation - the process of Canada becoming a country! Each class got a question to consider: "What if TMC split into two schools - one grades 5-6 and one grades 7-9?" and "What if Eric Harvie and Tuscany joined TMC and we became a K-9 school?". Students had to decide if they were for or against this and then provide reasons why. They were encouraged to look at the question from both perspectives - for and against - and then share their reasons with the class. This helped us understand the process of Confederation a little bit better in a way that we could relate. We will finish Confederation up early next week and then move on to the Northwest Mounted Police!
-We only have two and a half parts left of The True Blue Scouts of Sugar Man Swamp! We are coming up quickly to our Graphic Novel assignment!
SCIENCE
-Well, today was a hoot! We shared our experiments with our fellow learners and had a lot of fun. Each experiment shared their write up sheet, what they learned while completing their experiment, and whether or not it was a physical or chemical reaction.
-Next week we will be completing our last task for Chemistry!
MATH
-Most of our time this week was spent on science, but we did look at a card problem that was SO HARD. Give it a try and home and let Mrs. Simmons know if you can find some of the solutions.
ART 5-2
-Students are working on re-creating famous works of art using the grid method. By using a grid drawn overtop of their famous image, and a grid drawn over a blank piece of paper, students are working on drawing from sight the image they have square-by-square. This helps break down an overwhelming or difficult image into small, manageable parts, and can be used for many different types of media.
-Once students are done their piece, they will be tasked with learning about the artist who created it and the meaning behind their piece.
