Reminder for 5-1

All students in 5-1 are reminded that our last day of Open Minds is tomorrow and that it will be a FULL DAY field trip. The bus won't bring us back to the school until 3pm. Please ensure you know how you will be getting home and that you have a lunch for the day. Any questions or concerns please contact Mrs. Simmons at sesimmons@cbe.ab.ca Also, the 5-1 Open Minds webpage has been updated! Take a look and see some of the awesome work that we have been doing throughout the week!

Nov. 19th

Housekeeping: -Students in 5-1 are on a field trip tomorrow to the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary. While the weather promises to be good, please dress warmly as we will be outside for most of the day. Students must have a full lunch and water bottle to take along as well. -Please remember to pay your outstanding field trip feeds for Inglewood Bird Sanctuary and Fort Calgary! Thank you! -Please send back all necessary field trip forms for CPO or Open Minds (5-1). we have enough volunteers now, yah! And a huge thank you to all the parent volunteers coming with us. -Humanities region paragraphs are due Thursday, November 22nd. These need to be typed and handed-in. -Remember both 5-2 and 5-1 have a field trip on Wednesday to CPO!

Week at a Glance

REMINDERS:  Mrs. Simmons is still looking for two volunteers for Nov 29th and one volunteer for Nov 30th. Please, please, please let her know if you can go!  HUMS We are continuing to work on our big task - our Canadian Physical Regions project. The due dates for our research and picture pages have come and gone. Please make sure these elements of the project have been completed and you have got a stamp in your pink and yellow booklets. We are currently working on our paragraphs (some students are choosing to write essays) and that is being done in our green booklet and then typed on the computer. As a class, we have chosen due dates together. The paragraph for 5-1 and 5-2 is due Thursday, November 22nd. We are continuing to have free writing time and have been experimenting with 25-word Stories. Students receive a picture prompt and must write a story about it in only 25 words! Reminders:  5-1 is still looking for 1 field trip volunteer for the CPO field trip on November 21st. 5-2 is still looking for 3 volunteers for the Inglewood field trip on November 14th. SCIENCE: -Students finished up their work this week on their wetlands classification group posters. -This was a tough challenge for many kids to figure out ways to work with their groups -Many had leadership challenges and had to navigate through how they might solve their problems and move forward. -We also watched a video today from the Dene Indigenous group on the role of water in their culture. This indigenous perspective on the role of the water cycle was very interesting and raised some good conversation in the class. -To see the video we watched click here. -We will be continuing to explore the indigenous perspective in the coming days. Field Trips, Homework, and Fundraising

One more field trip volunteer is needed for Nov 21st to the Calgary Philharmonic. This is a short field trip. We leave at 8:40am and return by lunchtime. Contact Mrs. Simmons if you are able to come. Thank you! Students have been asked to bring in a small donation for the poppies being given for the Remembrance Day Assembly tomorrow. Dear Parents The second TMC School Council fundraiser of the year Is in high gear!!! We have teamed up with Dieleman’s Fundraising Sales. The campaign runs until Friday November 9. You can either submit the orders on the form provided or order online at  www.shopdfscanada.com  using School Group ID: 6790. You can register your student and send out the link to friends and family to order.  All funds raised through this school council initiated fundraiser will go towards school programming, enhancements and additional activities for students (for example: Grade 9 Farewell activity).  If you have any questions please em...

5-1 is still looking for one more volunteer for the CPO field trip! 5-1 has enough volunteers for the Inglewood Trip but VERY much still need parents to volunteer for the upcoming Open Minds Dates. 5-2 is still looking for volunteers for their field trip to Inglewood on Nov 14th. Field trip forms for 5-2 are coming home today. Please return them to school by Friday, November 9th and ensure all spots on the forms are signed. We are still in need of at least 3 volunteers for this field trip to the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary on Wednesday the 14th. 5-2 has enough volunteers for our CPO field trip on the 21st. Upcoming Field Trip and Monday Due Date

Field Trips -5-2 has a field trip coming up on November 14th to the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary. We are in need of at least 3 volunteers to come along on this trip. Please email bpcroswell@cbe.ab.ca as soon as possible if you can volunteer. Forms will be sent home next week. - 5-1and Mrs. Simmons is going to the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary on Nov 20th. We are still in need of one or two more volunteers! Contact Mrs. Simmons if you are able to join us. -We also have a field trip (both classes) to the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra on Nov. 21st and we will need 2 volunteers per homeroom.
