Week at a Glance

REMINDERS: Students and parents are reminded that there is no school next week on Thursday and Friday due to Teachers' Convention. Monday the school is closed due to Family Day.

Valentine's Day: Students can bring in cards for their classmates if they want. They have been asked to ensure that they have enough for their homeroom class. Please no candy or chocolates as we have allergies in both homerooms.

HUMS:

  • We finished the Fur Trade this week and are working on our Fur Trade Instagram posts. Students choose an important group from the fur trade and make a post from their perspective.
  • We will be doing a Fur Trade Cafe - more info to come next week!

MATH:

  • We worked on long division and fact families this week.
  • Students are reminded that they should be continuing to work on their multiplication fact families over the weekend. This sums should be coming quickly if students are working on them.
  • We also began working on 'Short Division'. This is very similar to long division and the kids caught onto it quickly. Take a look at the following video that helps to explain it.

SCIENCE:

  • Students completed their final open book quiz on wetlands/weather. The marks will be online in Powerschool over the weekend.
  • The quiz was broken into two marks online. One set of marks was for the short answer and one mark for their longer answers.
  • We began Classroom Chemistry!
  • Students looked into the definition of what matter was.
  • Here is  a link to the video we watched.
  • We talked about solids, liquids, gases, and Non-Newtonian fluids (more to come on this one!)
  • We completed our first experiment and lab write up. Students were walked through exactly how to fully complete the lab write ups as we begin our work with various experiments.
  • We completed a demonstration experiment on Carbon Dioxide. Take a look below!
