Reminders: We have a
field trip coming up on February 6th, 2019 to the Calgary
Philharmonic! Each homeroom will be looking for 2 approved volunteers to join
us on this trip. We will be leaving at the beginning of school and returning by
lunch. Email Mrs. Simmons or Mrs. Croswell if you’re interested!
-We are hard at work writing our OREO Explorer Paragraphs! We are proving who the best early explorer was by being persuasive and stating their opinions with valid reasons and examples.
-Next week we will finish these paragraphs and make Explorer Trading Cards before moving onto the Fur Trade!
-We are also continuing to read "True Blue Scouts" and are on chapter 33/34. We are taking notes and making note of hard words. We are also drawing some pictures to help us remind us what has happened throughout the book.
SCIENCE
-Students
have been working on creating a Tourism Poster/Infographic on their assigned
town. After gathering information from the website www.weatherbase.com on their various
towns, students have been challenged to create a magazine poster that would stop
someone in their tracks and make them deeply desire to go to this amazing
location.
-The information that we collected about our cities was focused on
looking at temperature, wind speed, hours of sunlight and more. The daily
averages, highs and the low temperatures have all been graphed as a comparative
analysis. Students have been given a number of periods to work on their rough
and good drafts of their posters. The finished and coloured poster
is due to Mrs. Simmons on Monday, Jan 28th.
-We will be
having an open book test coming up in the next week or so. More information to
come!
MATH
-We have
begun to go deeper down the rabbit hole as it relates to division. We started
the week continuing our work on partial quotient division and moved into
Standard (traditional lone division) division towards the end of this week.
-This is the first time for many students to see this and we want to make sure
that we really get it so we will continue to be working on this in the coming
week.
-We watched a great video that had a catchy little song! Students are challenged
to work on some long division at home this weekend!
FRENCH 5-2
ART 5-2
-Quiz on Tuesday so make sure you are studying this weekend! Remember you need to be able to say, spell, and write what is on the study sheet! Some things you may need to find in your duotang, like the days of the week.
We are finishing up our exploding perspective pieces and moving on to making mosaic hearts for an early Valentine's Day-inspired project. Check some of them out:
FRENCH 5-1
- We
spent some time this week working in partners on Duolingo.com. Kids have had a
lot of fun with this and are encouraged to continue using it from home. They
will hit a road block at some point where they need to make a profile but I
made one from home and it just takes a parent email to set it up. Take a look!
