Week at a Glance

HUMS Book buffet books should be finished today!! If you aren't done reading, please finish this weekend. We are starting our project next week (if you haven't already) so bringing your materials to school is important! Please come prepared next week with what you need to work on your final project at school in class. Thank you! We have finished going through the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, as well as creating our own Charter for TMC, and have moved on to looking at the topic of Quebec Separatism. We reviewed reasons for the referendums of 1980 and 1995. We are now applying it to our own lives and asking "What if Western Canada decided to separate from Eastern Canada? Would you vote yes or no - why?" Students have chosen a side and are creating a propaganda poster in order to sway others to their side! Volunteers Needed!!

We are still in need of 4 volunteers for our field trip to Heritage Park on June 5th! Please email sesimmons@cbe.ab.ca or bpcroswell@cbe.ab.ca if you have your current police check on file with the school and are able to come along with us on this trip! It is important that we have parent volunteers for safety reasons and so we can have manageable group sizes for the Wetlands program and exploring around Heritage Park. Thank you!

A HUGE congratulations to all of the students that performed, supported, and did work to make the Annie performances such a success. The show was amazing and we are so proud of everyone that contributed. None of this would be possible without the support of Mrs. Croswell, Mrs. Lowe and Miss Hierons. Thank you to everyone that make it such a success!!! Reminders: Field trip forms for our Heritage Park trip have come home and the fee can now be paid online. (Sorry for the delay!). -If you can volunteer please contact your home room teacher. Each class will need to have a minimum of 4 volunteers to be able to go! MATH -Students have continued to work this week on their larger backyard projects. This has proven to be a challenging project, but everyone is rising to the challenges in their own unique ways. -This project allows for us to work on conversions, perimeter, area, fractions, volume and many more outcomes in our work. -pictures to come next week! Collective Understandings and Updates

At this point the students have been asked to not complete the next round for their collective understandings. A new one will be coming out in the next little bit and will be shared with the students at that time. The current collective understandings is no longer available to students. Annie Performances begin tomorrow! If you don't have your tickets yet please contact the office. Field trip forms are coming home today for our trip to Heritage Park on June 5th. Both Mrs. Simmons and Mrs. Croswell will be looking for 4 or 5 volunteers to help us with this trip. The fees can be paid on your CBE account. Please contact the homeroom teacher if you have any questions or concerns.

HUMS -If students are not done their graphic novel page for True Blue Scouts, they have been asked to take it home to finish. -Definition sheets will be due next week. -We are working on sum-up pages for WWI, Famous Five, the Great Depression, and WWII. -We are excited to be working on some poetry based on nature with the guidance of an artist in residence, Audrey Lane. We are turning these into a final piece that has an art component with it as well. We can't wait to show you at the Learning Celebration on May 16th! Collective Understandings: -Many students have not contributed to the collective understandings for this last round. -They were asked to complete both a math and a science for May 10 th . -Students that have not added their information will still be allowed to add their contributions over the weekend but it will be coded as late on Powerschool. MATH -We spent lots of time this week working on our understanding of area and perimeter....

Annie Performances!

Our school musical is almost here! On May 22nd and 23rd, the TMC Drama Club will be performing their rendition of "Annie Jr." - a play we have been working on since October! If you would like to come support your student in the cast/crew or come and support the drama club here at TMC, please order your tickets using the instructions below! Mrs. Croswell and the drama team thank you in advance! Your student should be bringing home an orange Annie Ticket Form today! How this works: Fill out how many tickets you need for the correct performance Add up the total Send the ticket form and the payment (cheque/cash) back to school with your student Have your student hand this in to the office in the morning or after school or the Annie Ticket Form collection table in the foyer at Nutrition Break or Lunch to receive your tickets Your student brings your tickets back home! HUMS -5-2 got to work with comic artist Achiru this week and are currently making graphic novel pages for True Blue Scouts. They are coming along swimmingly and we learned a lot from our artist in residence. 5-1 will get to work with Achiru on Monday! -We have covered the Great Depression and the economic boom of WWII this week! We are now working on a sum-up page for these topics as well as the Famous Five and industrialization in the time of WWI. -We will be doing an art piece using the four historical events listed above in the coming week or two. -Remember that we are working on our Book Buffet projects each week. Week 1 of reading should be completed today. We start week 2 of reading next week. Make sure you have a book and get your signature page signed!!
