Week at a Glance

HUMS
-If students are not done their graphic novel page for True Blue Scouts, they have been asked to take it home to finish.
-Definition sheets will be due next week.
-We are working on sum-up pages for WWI, Famous Five, the Great Depression, and WWII.
-We are excited to be working on some poetry based on nature with the guidance of an artist in residence, Audrey Lane. We are turning these into a final piece that has an art component with it as well. We can't wait to show you at the Learning Celebration on May 16th!

Collective Understandings:
-Many students have not contributed to the collective understandings for this last round.
-They were asked to complete both a math and a science for May 10th.
-Students that have not added their information will still be allowed to add their contributions over the weekend but it will be coded as late on Powerschool.

MATH
-We spent lots of time this week working on our understanding of area and perimeter.
-Students will have covered this before, but need some time to reaffirm their understanding.
-We started working on out backyard designs. Ask your kids what they have included in their work!

SCIENCE
-We worked throughout the week on simulations that look at series and parallel circuits.
-We also looked at some of the materials that might be conductors of electricity and what might be insulators.
-Students are encouraged to check out the PhetLab online through the University of Colorado as they have a great product that is easy to use and free.

ARTIST IN RESIDENCE
-All students have now had the opportunity to work with both Achiru(graphic comic artist) and Audrey Lane Cockett (Spoken Poetry).
-We are very excited to have students attend the Celebration of Learning on May 16th from 5-7pm as this when we will be sharing our work with families.
-Students need to sign up for a poetry presentation time. If you are planning to attend please talk with Mrs. Simmons or Mrs. Croswell to find a time slot that works!
