Week at a Glance

HUMS
-5-2 got to work with comic artist Achiru this week and are currently making graphic novel pages for True Blue Scouts. They are coming along swimmingly and we learned a lot from our artist in residence. 5-1 will get to work with Achiru on Monday!
-We have covered the Great Depression and the economic boom of WWII this week! We are now working on a sum-up page for these topics as well as the Famous Five and industrialization in the time of WWI.
-We will be doing an art piece using the four historical events listed above in the coming week or two.
-Remember that we are working on our Book Buffet projects each week. Week 1 of reading should be completed today. We start week 2 of reading next week. Make sure you have a book and get your signature page signed!!

MATH
- we continue to take time this week to look at the different ways of understanding fractions.
-We have worked at looking at both improper, proper, and mixed number fractions.
- it is critical for students to understand the importance between a proper fraction, which indicates a number that has a value of less than a hole, and the differences between a mix number which indicates the value of something that has both a fraction and a whole number associated with it.
- students are reminded day they are asked to complete one collective understanding in math for the upcoming week. It is due on Friday.

SCIENCE

-We continued to work on our understanding of circuits Area we spent some time this week looking at whether or not lightbulbs will light up depending upon their placement near or their connection to batteries.
- in the upcoming week, we will begin begetting a larger project on parallel and series circuits, as well as some more work on experimenting with electricity.
- we also be beginning to look at more in depth at insulators, conductors ,and resistors in our environment.
- students are reminded day they are asked to complete one collective understanding in science for the upcoming week. It is due on Friday.
FRENCH 5-1
-Students are reminded that their Perdu! posters are due on Monday.

CTF: Coulee Fest
-       ­students are now completed their first full week of working on their projects and cool effects.
-        It is important for students to reflect back at this point and see where they have come from throughout the week.
-        There’ll only be one CTF. Next week due to artist in residence as well as provincial achievement test for later grades.
-        Students are encouraged to speak with the teacher of the area that they’re working in to ensure that they’re on track and moving forward with their design in a meaningful manner
